Updated: Jun 21

I am creating these "Yoga Extras" blog posts for those of you resonating with the public yoga classes & Yoga Teacher Trainings I am leading. Inside of these blog posts you will find extra resources that support our weekly class theme. The weekly classes I guide are themed according to the season & collective energetic "weather"--This is of course influenced by many things; for instance, not only national and global events but how masses of people are feeling about and reacting to those events. It is also influenced by space weather (see & the current movement/placement of celestial bodies ie: the sun, moon, planets, nodes, stars, etc. You can find me teaching currently at Black Swan Yoga (North-Anderson) in Austin, TX. I am on the schedule as "Erika K." Mention this webpage for a free class.

John O'Donohue

In out-of-the-way places of the heart,

Where your thoughts never think to wander,

This beginning has been quietly forming,

Waiting until you were ready to emerge.

For a long time it has watched your desire,

Feeling the emptiness growing inside you,

Noticing how you willed yourself on,

Still unable to leave what you had outgrown.

It watched you play with the seduction of safety

And the gray promises that sameness whispered,

Heard the waves of turmoil rise and relent,

Wondered would you always live like this.

Then the delight, when your courage kindled,

And out you stepped onto new ground,

Your eyes young again with energy and dream,

A path of plenitude opening before you.

Though your destination is not yet clear

You can trust the promise of this opening;

Unfurl yourself into the grace of beginning

That is at one with your life's desire.

Awaken your spirit to adventure;

Hold nothing back, learn to find ease in risk;

Soon you will home in a new rhythm,

For your soul senses the world that awaits you.

Below are writing prompts based on the above reading.

  • Quiet Beginnings: Reflect on a time in your life when a new beginning was forming quietly within you, unnoticed. Describe how you came to recognize it and the emotions you felt as it emerged.

  • Embracing Change: Write about a moment when you felt the emptiness growing inside you, indicating you had outgrown your current situation. How did you cope with this realization, and what steps did you take to move forward?

  • Seduction of Safety: Describe a period in your life when you were tempted by the safety and sameness of your current situation. What fears or doubts held you back from pursuing change?

  • The Spark of Courage: Think about a time when your courage was kindled, and you stepped onto new ground. What prompted this change, and how did it feel to embrace a new beginning?

  • Unclear Destinations: Write about a journey you embarked on without knowing the final destination. How did you learn to trust the process and find joy in the unfolding path?

  • Finding Ease in Risk: Reflect on a risk you took that led to significant personal growth. What challenges did you face, and how did you learn to find ease and confidence in taking that risk?

  • New Rhythms: Describe a time when you transitioned into a new rhythm in your life. How did this change align with your life's desires, and what did you discover about yourself in the process?

  • Soul's Adventure: Write a story about a character who awakens their spirit to adventure, leaving behind a life of sameness. Explore their internal struggles, moments of courage, and the new world that awaits them.

  • Grace of Beginnings: Reflect on the concept of "the grace of beginning" as described in the poem. Write about how you have experienced or witnessed this grace in your own life or in the lives of others.

  • Plenitude of Path: Imagine a future where you step into a path of plenitude. Describe this future in detail, focusing on how it fulfills your dreams and aligns with your deepest desires.

Welcome to Cancer season

From June 20th to July 22nd, the Sun scuttles through Cancer. The first day of Cancer season also marks the solstice — the start of summer in the Northern Hemisphere and winter in the Southern Hemisphere. This turning point in the year calls us to think about what we’d like to refresh and restart in our lives. And with Sol in this cardinal water sign, the next few weeks remind us to nurture ourselves as much as we extend care to the ones we love. So cry if you want to, sulk when you’re in the mood, and remember to protect your heart.

Your horoscopes are meant to be read as inspiration. If you know both your rising sign and Sun sign, please read both horoscopes. You’ll know which one resonates for you. Take what works and leave the rest. If you’d like to share this work, please credit the source and provide a link to this post or Thank you for your support and for spreading this work around. We really appreciate it — and you.

The following horoscopes were written by Sarina Romero.

Welcome to Cancer season — and happy solstice. For the next few weeks, Sol is shining its rays on your foundations and illuminating all the ways you nurture yourself at home.

Follow through on doing whatever anchors and nourishes you, whether that means making time to catch up with family, spending a luxurious Sunday afternoon meal-prepping for the week, or swooning over the beautiful mementos that adorn your shelves. You’ll recharge your batteries and replenish your system along the way.

Welcome to Cancer season — and happy solstice. For the next few weeks, Sol is energizing your daily life and shining a light on all the rituals that help you nurture yourself. So go lounge in the park. Meander through the grocery store for fun. And surround yourself with your favorite people.

No matter what, make sure to check in with your boundaries and needs over the next few weeks. That might seem obvious enough, but your days really do flourish when you feel safe, nourished, and anchored.

Welcome to Cancer season — and happy solstice. For the next few weeks, Sol is shining its rays on your resources and talents. So pay close attention to your assets and skills as they take center stage. If someone or something tries to dim your light, reinforce your boundaries.

And if your fear of putting yourself out there is keeping you walled off, dare to be more vulnerable as you showcase your gifts. No matter what, prioritize the choices that help you feel nourished and anchored along the way.

Welcome to Cancer season — and happy solstice. The next few weeks are a personal homecoming for you — a refreshing reunion with yourself.

So follow your emotions and instincts wherever they lead you, whether it’s toward drawing a bath for yourself or cooking for all your beloveds. And while the care you give others is legendary, you can always benefit from giving more to yourself — yes, that includes attending to your boundaries.

The more you affirm and prioritize what feels nourishing to you, the more you’ll recharge your system.

So resync with yourself in calm moments. Journal, put your phone on airplane mode for an hour or two, or even take a walk without any distracting devices. No matter what, prioritize nourishment. Cry in the tub if you want to. And soak up how sweet and healing it feels to give yourself care and devotion.

No matter what, remember to decompress, and prioritize nourishment. That’s how you’ll sync up with the connections that resonate for you.

Welcome to Cancer season — and happy solstice. For the next few weeks, Sol is shining its rays on your public-facing world. Notice what’s bringing you to center stage in your life. And if you’re pouring more time into work projects or pursuing a calling that lights you up, pay attention to the choices that energize you — and the ones that don’t.
