I am creating these "Yoga Extras" blog posts for those of you resonating with the public yoga classes & Yoga Teacher Trainings I am leading. Inside of these blog posts you will find extra resources that support our weekly class theme. The weekly classes I guide are themed according to the season & collective energetic "weather"--This is of course influenced by many things; for instance, not only national and global events but how masses of people are feeling about and reacting to those events. It is also influenced by space weather (see spaceweather.com) & the current movement/placement of celestial bodies ie: the sun, moon, planets, nodes, stars, etc. You can find me teaching currently at Black Swan Yoga (North-Anderson) in Austin, TX. I am on the schedule as "Erika K." Mention this webpage for a free class.
Physical Focus (Peak Pose): (Grounded) Heart/lung/shoulder opening/strengthening along with detoxing/lymph movement all in preparation for the shift into Fall.
Philosophical: Taking Stock.
A business owner takes time throughout the year to inventory that business' resources. Adding wisdom to the mix, I'd say a wise business owner sits and tunes into/feels gratitude for all that has transpired over the year; all that has been a teacher, all that has encouraged the business to thrive and what is currently acting as a metaphorical sandbag in the basket of business' hot air balloon, keeping it from moving upward. The skillful owner would cut ties with whatever it is taking up unnecessary space and/or causing a backup in the company's continued existence and growth.
If we ourselves do not do this with some sort of regularity with ourselves, we begin not feeling good. Perhaps jealousy, anger, resentment, irritation, anxiety, dissatisfaction, restlessness, a feeling of being lost or useless grows. Similar to the business, over time, our health begins to decline and eventually fail. This is a good time of year for such inventory. For a really sweet and informative letter from a local Austin business, see below: Celebrating the Autumn Equinox. Super interesting to learn about the celebration of Mabon if you are unfamiliar.

After class one day someone came up and wrote down this quote for me. My body viscerally reacted to it. I could sense in it a deep truth. Especially in regards to all of the personal transformation work I've done in my lifetime, as well as the wellness work I do with others. Don't let the heaven and hell language throw you off. Those words can carry some serious historical baggage. Stay open, if you can, to the larger lessons that spiritual and/or religious allegory has to offer. No way no how am I pushing any sort of doctrine. I myself attempt to remain an open learner, seeker on my own journey of growing in consciousness, just like my physical body has grown throughout my lifetime. The quotes are all from C.S. Lewis' allegory/story, "The Great Divorce," a book I've only read parts of though am hoping to complete. Now, my mind understands both spiritual language as well as the scientific. I guess that's just the way I was built/trained myself. My own advanced studies currently are spoken in both. One of my professors Dr. Joe Dispenza likes to say: "Science is the contemporary language of mysticism." From my own personal experience, I completely agree. That said, I provided an image originally created by Dr. David Hawkins. It is known as the "Scale of Consciousness [or] Emotional Scale." In terms of what we are even doing in these bodies on this planet, I believe this is an astoundingly important piece of information if you ask yourself the big questions.
The moment I hit save on what I'm writing right now I'm taking out a journal and making a list. I want to take a bit of time to appreciate all that I have been gifted, what is lifting me, and what is acting as dead weight. The plan from there is the plan from there. For now, step 1: taking stock/appreciating.
Happy Fall Equinox, dear ones. Wishing you ease, internal rest, satisfaction, curiosity, appreciation, whole health and a playful heart in this new season. xo e
