I am creating these "Yoga Extras" blog posts for those of you resonating with the public yoga classes & Yoga Teacher Trainings I am leading. Inside of these blog posts you will find extra resources that support our weekly class theme. The weekly classes I guide are themed according to the season & collective energetic "weather"--This is of course influenced by many things; for instance, not only national and global events but how masses of people are feeling about and reacting to those events. It is also influenced by space weather (see spaceweather.com) & the current movement/placement of celestial bodies ie: the sun, moon, planets, nodes, stars, etc. You can find me teaching currently at Black Swan Yoga (North-Anderson) in Austin, TX. I am on the schedule as "Erika K." Mention this webpage for a free class.
Physical Focus (Peak Pose): Archer Dolphin is back by popular demand! In preparation we will focus on opening, multi-dimensionally, the shoulders; we will strengthen as well as open the upper back; lengthen the hamstrings, calves, hip flexors aka the psoas, side bodies, etc. As per usual this is a full body practice with the above focus. We will prepare for more strenuous, challenging shapes such as the above variation on Dolphin with a grounding, slower paced flow so as (psoas! ha!) to a. conserve our energy for the more firey poses and b. practice the habit of creating and maintaining a regulated nervous system (especially when faced with a challenge). Think: on and off of the mat.
Philosophical: LEAVE BEHIND & RETURN
In honor of the approaching ECLIPSE SEASON, we will practice, like the word "eclipse" suggests, leaving behind those habitual, conditioned ways of thinking, as well as stories & behaviors that separate us from the original wisdom we each carried within us as our child selves.

Hey! Fall fun. Meet me at Casa de Luz in two weeks. This is happening and it's gonna be fun. See pic and details below
Hey peeps.
I looove our reading this week (see below). So much so that I want to share with you one of my very favorite books. It's a daily reader (365 entries for the entire year) written by the brilliant brilliant poetic being, Mark Nepo. If you don't know of him, I believe you'll want to. He wrote these 365 pieces during a serious cancer scare, so they come from the most honest pocket of his heart. Perhaps you or a loved one would like to pick up from Half Priced Books (support our local peeps!) a copy as a gift this holiday season. It makes every day that you read an entry a real gift. 🎁
Yours in our real gifts,
e.
